Crusade For Your Art

Congrats everyone! It's crunch time!

I quickly read the book, it was a fairy easy read on the kindle app. ($10 on Amazon)
It's similar with the "Art/Work" book that we're reading for senior show, where it speaks about
the art world realities and gives wonderful tips.

It pinpointed many of the conversations we've had in Photo Seminar 1, about how many photos,
when to move on, and how to distant yourself from your work.

I think since it's the start of many of our professional careers, we tend to have a sentimental story behind every photo we take, so it complicates our bias views when choosing many photos. (Especially me with the "Success" series!!!)

What I enjoy most about both books is that it does not sugar coat life after college/instruction. I think many people (of course not you guys) believe that once you graduate, you'll find a job. It explains that you become your own marketer, accountant, PR, social media, have some knowledge in graphic design, networker, everything else in the beginning (unless you're $$$).

One thing I favor this book over "Art/Work" is that there's no DO's and DON'Ts. With the rapid change in today's technology and different approaches, this book just gives advices and suggestions that you can take along.

I switched from a biology path to this art journey knowing that after graduating, I'm not going to be guaranteed a job as easy compared to a bio degree. With anything I read about art, just put your heart and soul into it, and make it a passion. Congrats to everyone, I hope we all keep in touch since it's only the beginning of this new world of ours!

Rachel Trautmann - Student Exhibition

My Inauguration Day book was accepted to be featured in the Juried Student Exhibition this summer!
As I already stated, I also submitted work to the MOCA's Open (C)all Exhibition that will be opening a week after the Senior Show.

Rachel Trautmann: Weekly Update

March for Science was excellent! It was raining the entire time and I felt like an ice cube but besides that, it was amazing! Sunday was completely dedicated to editing and finishing up my final flag book for my Distressed America series. Some of the photos below were included in the book.

I have also decided to include some framed prints for the Senior Show exhibition. Although the books look awesome, I also want to make sure some focus stays on the photography. One photograph from each day will be framed and on display. I may decide to use photographs that weren't used in the books, we'll see.

--Please excuse the terrible photos of the book. It is on display at school right now and I only have the photos I took the night I finished it!

Omaha Update

Hey Everyone! I am in Omaha, Nebraska and I went to their art museum (it's a lot like the Chrysler!) and there was a photographer that was showing her project on her mother that had dementia and it absolutely SLAYED ME so I am attaching some of the pictures from her website because the ones I took aren't very good from my phone.

Rachel Trautmann: Weekly Update

I entered one of my photos into the MOCA Open (C)all Exhibition yesterday. I'd upload a photo but I'm currently on the Metro and Blogger won't let me upload one for some reason....

I arrived in D.C. about 30 minutes ago for the March for Science tomorrow. I'll be photographing the entire day then driving home to edit, print, and put together my final flag book of my series for Senior Show.

I'll possibly upload images this weekend, if not next week for my final post.

Update

Here's an update of pictures I've been taking for the "Public Privates" that I've been doing this semester.

I'm still editing more, trying to travel more, and just do more of everything... which is SUPER DIFFICULT with the year ending. (I'm sure everyone can agree!)

Victoria: New Project

I've been working on a new project not for this class but just something I'm continuing with my abandoned houses. As you all know I have taken photographs of the insides of places but this series focuses on the outside. Because I have so many of these photos, I thought I wouldn't let these images go to waste so I'm working on creating a series out of them. I have photographs of these places while they were standing and after they have been knocked down... generating some ideas with these

Project on this class

Hey everyone!

So I've been working on a project this semester that has really focused on emotions like grief and depression. Then also the things that effect the most like transition or change. How neither emotions or the things like change or transition aren't tangible but effect us deeply...Still trying to flesh out the idea but this is what I have so far.

Rachel Trautmann's Website

I just finished up my fine arts website, http://rtrautmannart.weebly.com
(copy and paste the link, if it doesn't direct you to the site. For some reason it doesn't seem to work when I click on the link above.)

I haven't purchased my domain yet but plan on purchasing www.racheltrautmannart.com since I already own www.racheltrautmann.com for my commercial work.
[There are blank areas under my Distressed America series since the March for Science takes place next weekend and will fill in those areas.]

Since I created a brand new website for my fine arts work, I haven't made as many alterations to my commercial site but I did reformat my artist page and removed my fine arts work from my commercial site. - The photo below show the updates to my artist page.

Rachel Trautmann: Weekly Update

I finished my Inauguration Day book this week.
The March for Science will be taking place next Saturday so I will be prepping that book this week so I can complete it next Sunday. I'm hoping I only have to edit, print, and attach the photos on Sunday but it will be VERY close!

I also submitted work to the Student Juried Show yesterday. I decided to do a range of work instead of only submitted photos or these photo books. I am also prepping something for the MOCA Open (C)all that will be taking submissions this week.

Genesis Juried Exhibition

As most art students know, the Peninsula Fine Arts Center accepted entries into their annual juried show. Getting my work together for the show was the thing that gave me a headache. I went to get my frames last minute and that was fine until I realized that my images were printed out the wrong size. After getting over that issue I did get a chance to submit my work and both of them got in.  This is my first gallery outside of school so I am really excited about this opportunity. Being at the opening was a good feeling. There was a lot good work there and I am glad that I got a chance to take part.

Virginia Collegiate Honors Council Conference

This past weekend, myself and a few other artist that were selected in for the Research Symposium were invited to participate in their annual conference. The difference between this time was that we were judged. It was interesting to have people from other colleges be interested our work. It was also interesting to be judged then and there. For most competitions we submit our work and have that speak for itself, this time we had the judges approach us on our entire, from the artist statement to the actual work. Through all of that, I ended up not receiving an award. After looking over their comments, I believe that it was off of personal taste and who had art based off more research but I am confident in my work.

Resumé

In my senior show class we were asked to prepare our resume. We read about the  differences in having a CV and resumé. I had to learn what was needed for an artist resumé and a regular one. I still have some updating to do. I have heard that they need to be one page, but I am struggling with that.
