Chanté Gipson Weekly Update

I have finished printing my images and now I am in the process of framing them. My website is done, I just need to make it public.

Weekly Update Jedara Reyes

Here's some grad pics I took this week and I didn't make any changes to the website because I changed my mind about putting the grad shots up there.

Kieran Rundle Weekly Check in

I finalized the printing (had to redo 2) and am waiting until class to learn how to do installations in the gallery before getting picture hanging hooks to make sure that will be permitted.

On my website I updated my resume and bio to what was created in senior show.

Noah Duhe-Harris Website Update

I updated my website and added subcategory like Greta suggested.

Jedara Reyes Weekly Update

The website still feels empty to me so I had the idea to do complete projects rather than the juried works page. So, I have Emporia, Virginia so I've added my other recent collection.

To answer the question on the last post "I dont see how those are composite images. Is somthing photoshopped in there?"

Two of the images were photoshopped so hopefully that means I did a good job! Everytime I photoshop even if it's something small like removing a blemish or taking out a sign I feel like it's so obvious but maybe it's because I worked on it and overanalyze that one area.

This week I was in Emporia I took more photos for that collection. I know were supposed to always be shooting so hopefully it's okay it wasn't for the portfolio/website though I suppose that collection is up there. Maybe one of these could replace one photo that's currently up there. I also did a grad shoot today and another next week so between those two shoots I'm gonna use some of the portraits for the website.

Let me know which image you prefer!

Chanté Gipson Update

I have bought my frames and additional materials from Amazon and Jerry's online. Currently, I am waiting for my frames to get here, which should either be Tuesday or Wednesday of this upcoming week. I plan to begin printing my photos once the frames are here.

Kieran Rundle Weekly Update

Website update:

I didn't play around with anything on the desktop version but I entirely reformatted the pages with the photo series for the phone version so they fit nicer.

Project update:

This week has been a battle of wills with first the printer and then frames.

When I finished printing, I excitedly took them back to my house to frame them in the nice frames I originally got. They were the kind with the skinny border just on the edges and for some reason Michaels measured them from the outside of the frame to outside of the frame not the inner edges so every photo I cut was too big by a fraction of an inch.

I then went to plan B but Amazon was out of stock and Target got pricey too quickly so I turned to Walmart and successfully found matching frames.

My big question: With the back of the frames looking like this with the little triangle hooks, how do I hang them?

Chanté Gipson Weekly Update

This week I spent most of my time figuring out my layout for Senior Show. I have looked at various frames and sizes online. I decided that I want to make four of my images 13 x 19 in. and six of them 8 x 10 in. without a window mat. When printing the images should they have a white border around it or be borderless? Additionally, if the images are printed with a border will that change the dimensions of the image?

For my website, I readjusted the size of the images for my series pages, so now there are three columns instead of two. I still need to figure out how to adjust the size of the two images on my home page. I am not sure if I should keep the images on the home page or change it to something else.

Here are the frames I am thinking of buying from Amazon and Ikea.

Also, here are my plans for how I want to arrange my framed images for senior show.

Jedara Reyes Update Website & Photos 4/2/21

The advice for the website was

  •  to remove the juried work so I've done so
  • make the photos smaller- i've tried everything so far and adobe wont let me so im gonna research more on it so far it only allows margin changes or if you make it smaller it creates huge gaps on the page AND you still have to scroll which was the reason for downsizing
  • remove some images from the Emporia, Virginia page
  • Change/ remove photos from my portfolio page so I took some away and added some new ones
  • edit cover photo for emporia, virgina
Here's the composite images i've worked on along with some other shots I've been working on.

Sorry if some appear too dark I did notice they were as I wanted on my computer but when I sent them to my phone I needed to brighten them. But, that was only the case for some photos not all which I found confusing.

Kieran Rundle Update

 Website:

  • Switched from white on black to traditional black on white (except melancholia page because white felt wrong)
  • Changed button colors to all be the same
  • Picked out new front photograph
  • adjusted all layouts on phone view as well

Photography Arrangement Ideas:

The sizes shown in arrangement ideas are: I went with traditional sizes so I can get matching frames for all of them
11x14
8x10
5x7

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Photography Frame Ideas: these thin ones from Michaels (would depend on ordering time)

These thicker ones from Amazon
(ignore the mat, it would be removed)

Artitecture 2: Update 9 & Website

Good afternoon! Here's a brief update on my Artitecture 2 series. All of the photos have been edited. They are ready from printing. I am in the process of shopping around for frames. I know that I want to use black frames with a size of 11x17 in. Any recommendations for places to shop for frames are welcome!

Regarding the website, I haven't made significant changes. The only thing that is different is my work with the nature series. I have resumed photographing lightning and storm structures (since spring is officially in full swing). Feel free to check that out. Let me know if there's any improvements I need to make to the site.

Noah Duhe-Harris Another website update

I just added some more information for one of the pages and I plan o add sections perhaps on certain project. I think right now since I am going for a portfolio its fine that I displayed all of the images I think are the strongest.

Jedara Reyes Week 11

I was able to do the photoshoot I was really excited about. Some of the photos came out exactly as planned while others the content was perfect but the background was too much of an issue to use. I don't see it as a fail though since it was my first time trying this type of thing so it was good practice and I'm gonna seek out a perfect location. I've completed one of the composite images I've planned and I've edited a few shots to keep as is

Chanté Gipson Project/Website Update

For my project, I created a selects folder of the images I chose and edited them in Photoshop. I also added a few more images to my website for part 2 of my series. So far, I have looked at the sizes and pricing of frames on Target, Ikea, Micheals, and Amazon. My plan for senior show is to print five images from my series last semester and five for this semester, which would make ten images all together. Additionally, the prints are going to be 8 x 10 inches. The size of the frames will be 11 x 14 inches with matted frame and the color of them will be black. If I buy the frames from Ikea it will be around 12 x 16 inches.

Kieran Rundle Week Update

 Website:

I finally finished formatting the PDF scroll through book for Melancholia of the Mind. Because it took a lot longer than I expected, before I did it for Sense of the South as well I wanted to get your opinion on how that looked.

In the background of the pages if I take away the pictures what should I put? Should I include any images on the site or just the ones in my series? I just put solid colors but it feels really bare. That might just be because I'm not used to it.

I took out the "shop" page and instead made those buttons next to my "about" section on that page so that they still somehow exist but aren't bold.

Project:

I'm not sure what the framing exercise for this week was supposed to be. After getting an evaluation on Tuesday I will do final editing and then be ready to print.

For sizes my plan with senior show was 8x10 in 11x14 frames so all 6 will fit on the given wall and can be nicely matted. Any larger frames are outside my budget. Should I just go 11x14 or stay with my idea of having a mat?

I've been looking on amazon and walmart so far for frames. During the evaluation on Tuesday I want to talk about what colored frames will work best.

Artitecture 2: Update 8 & Website

Good afternoon! Here's the latest update on my series. I have wrapped up shooting and started preparations for printing. There are several images that still warrant minor editing or "touch ups". Other than that, the rest of the images are ready to go. I'm aiming to get into the studio later tomorrow, if not today, to begin printing.

As far as the website goes, I made some changes. I tweaked the bio so it's shorter. I also redid the background images for some of the website's pages. I did this so the font would be more eye-catching and easier to read. I also added some photos to my Artitecture 2 and Lightning series. Please let me know if I need to make more readjustments. Hope you like the site!

Chanté Gipson Sunday Update

This week I worked on my website and shot some photos for my project. For my website, I added information for my bio and contact. My purpose for making the site is to showcase some of my strongest work that portrays the concept I have been working on the last three semesters. The website I am working on now will be used for fine art purposes. Additionally, in the future I want to create a website specifically for commercial work because I am interested in working commercially. A few things I like about my website so far are the layout of the images, organization of the pages, and the ease of navigation.

Next week I plan to refine my website a bit, continue photographing, and finalizing images that will be included in my series. Here is one of the images I took this week.

Additional Questions:

When making a contact page should I include my phone number and Instagram?

How do I create an email that reflects the URL of my website for Squarespace?

Do I have to add an artist statement about my work onto the site?

Kieran Rundle Week Update

Website Update:

I changed the order of the headings and took out the three photo series. The picture backgrounds are still there because I'm brainstorming what to replace them with and how to make a miscellaneous category not look unprofessional.

I love the idea about the PDF pages scrolling.

When reading your email I realized I never posted questions or research responses.

My three main questions about websites:

- What platforms do people normally use other than wix/squarespace/wordpress/weebly?

- How in depth do artists do with coding or do most artists go with coding or do they pay for most of their website add ons?

- Why do artists not post more series on their website? I often try to find things on them and look for more that I want to see.

Photo Series Update:

I feel so close. These are my top 6 but I want to do one more photoshoot in each medium.

Jedara Reyes Week 10

 Update:

I've spent this week and last week creating my website on adobe. It's a bit of a learning curve since I've used wix before and it is definitely not similar in my opinion. Adobe has sample websites so I opened a few of my favorites and took pieces of what I liked to create mine as well as put my own spin. I just need a few more images and I have a big shoot I've been planning this entire semester coming up! This shoot will have studio and outdoor (weather permitting) and will be used to add to my portfolio for portraiture but will also be used to create my composite image.
Here's the link: https://jreye003.myportfolio.com/

I was considering doing an about page but I think my small intro on the front page is enough.

I also would like the page better with a logo and professionally I think I would need a watermark so I am considering making myself one.

The schedule lists "framing exercises" but there aren't any in blackboard assignments, the syllabus, or the schedule so I'm not sure what that entailed since there weren't any instructions given. So, I googled it and I read the first three options that popped up. They were an interesting read in the sense of some of the images I personally feel would not have fared well in our critiques in class. Some of the framing examples used walls for example and they were cut off so one could argue that it was just distracting to an image. Others used framing to really zone in on the subject so there was a LOT of negative space and was another example of a complaint or critique I could see happening. It did make me realize however that I need to think of the basics and cores of photography more often when I'm shooting to get better images rather than think purely of a certain feel I want or hyper-focusing on that ONE composition that I wanted.

Last week I missed a post but to answer those questions:
  • The purpose of my site is to show off my work to potential clients being schools. I could see myself finding a way to also merge it into a site to take on clients for business work or freelance but for now it is for employers.
  • I am enjoying the layout for the most part it just feels empty to me in that I should have more on the home page. However, I don't want to put unnecessary photos or info on my page.
  • I like my color scheme and my idea to include show works. I dislike there only being two images in there but that's my own fault for neglecting to enter competitions or galleries these days.

Chanté Gipson Website Update

This week I spent most of my time creating and working on my website. I researched other artists sites to take a look at the layout and design. Furthermore, I ended up choosing Squarespace to create my website because I liked the templates and the simplistic design. It took me a while to understand how to display my images the way I wanted, however, I managed to figure it out. So far, I have not yet added information for my bio and contact, but it will be added soon. Next week I plan to continue working on the website and taking more photos for my project. Below is a link to my website and the password to access it at the moment.

Artitecture 2: Update 7 & Website

Good evening. For starters, I am going to give an update on the website. After reflecting and thinking a bit, I am going to make some changes in how the site is set up. If I am going to be honest, I am not sure as to how yet. I'm looking at other art sites in an attempt to develop my own ideas. For now, this is something in the works. Stay tuned on that for more.

For now, here is my latest image. I took this in Hampton last week. This is an image of the former Quality Inn. The hotel is being torn down to allow new shops/hotels to come in. Let me know what you think!

Kieran Rundle Week Recap

This week I mainly did a lot of work on my website and had my first photoshoot about charcoal.  I'm just attaching teeny tiny thumbnails because I have not gone through them at all yet.

I deleted all of the carousels and put still galleries. On the client photography page it slides without clicking- what do you think about that? Should remain still? I also adjusted the colors on that page to a little more subdued but still unique from the rest.

Addressing the goal of the website - to show a fine art portfolio - I combined the two shop pages into one so it was less prominent.

I was looking at the photo projects to stay in or edit out and was wondering if cutting it down to 5 would be a good amount? Right now it has 7 projects. Right now I still have all of them up.

Going through I think my strongest are (in no particular order):

COVID19

Willoughby Spit

Aftermath

Melancholia

Dysphoria

I'm not sure if I think that just because they are deeper than the others or if the images are better. I had A Depiction of Apples on there to show a diverse range of work like still lives and because it was in a show. In my head, Tranquility is the most beautiful series I have made (other than just travel/nature photos) with composition and subject. I did not put any nature centered series (like my National Park Series) because I originally felt they were almost too cliche.

I'm also including the link to my client website in case you have a second to check it out. I'd love to know your ideas on what should be changed and how to make it better. It's a lot more "bubblegum" than my main website to cater more towards the clients I find myself working with. I know it needs serious work. While I've been adding to it over the years I haven't done a website fix in a while on it.

Artitecture 2: Update 6 & Website Link

Good afternoon! Here's the latest update for Artitecture 2. I complete my final round of photos for the project last week. I went up to Washington DC and Richmond to capture the last architecture photos. Of course I won't post all of them for the update. This is because I would like to keep at least some things a surprise for the project reveal. I will show one however. This is a I took while in DC. This is the Native American Museum. I was intrigued by the lighting and composition while walking through the area.

Also, here's the link to my website! I have my bio and contact information up to date. I also have some works from the Artitecture 2 Series published. Plus, I blogged about Artitecture 1 and Artitecture 2. Hope you enjoy the website!

Jedara Reyes Website & Update

 Website:

https://wix.to/28AdDLg
This link is the feedback link which allows you to view the page in it's entirety
and leave comments if you so choose. To have a nice domain on wix you have to pay which I never did
and I don't really love the website as a whole. Since I pay for adobe and will continue to I definitely feel that
I would prefer if you could just comment here and let me know if theres any aspects from the website you
think I should include in my new one I am creating for adobe. Though, I do recognize that my adobe
portfolio will be just that, whereas my website was intended to be like a business website. Hopefully,
I can merge the two? Please keep in mind I made this website in 2017 and it had not been touched since then.

Update:

I have been brainstorming hard about what I wanted to do for my composite image and I think I've settled
on some ideas. Last meeting while I was screen sharing I noticed an interest in some images I had not taken
for this class but were taken this year so I wonder if it would be okay to include any? Here's a screenshot of
the image raw vs edited. The shot was originally taken with an orange and blue light so even just putting it
on auto brought those back I did not just edit them in. I fixed a bit of blemishing on the face and overall
altered contrast and other basics.

Chanté Gipson Update

This week I spent my time editing some of the photos I have chosen and taken so far. Next week I plan to start creating my website and working on it. So far, I am thinking of using either Square Space or Wordpress for my website. Below are two photos I took this week for my project.

Kieran Rundle Weekly Reflection and Website

I finished up my photoshoots for the painting section of the project today. I'm attaching my selects folder and am trying to pick top three best. Two of these will be in the final one but one will end up going as the charcoal ones take place. I haven't narrowed it down between the three ones with the hand in it. I've been working hard on the composition for all of these in general but in the painting shoot I had fun playing with depth of field.

I'm also attaching my selects folder for the resin photoshoots - the two I've been leaning towards are 11 and the last one to be shown.

my website is www.kieranrundleproductions.com for first evaluation. I am excited to see everyone else's website.

Noah Duhe-Harris Chapter 3 & 4 reflection

In chapter 3 the author talks about the importance and techniques for setting goals in your work. The relevance for the show or exhibition is probably the most important factor. If your work doesn't fit the idea or theme for the gallery then it makes sense that you won't be selected. The author also mentions some of the requirements of applying for an exhibition which are pretty much basic information. Schwartz also includes information about attempting to publish your work in a book. The most interesting part about to me was the competition section. She said its important to refer to competitive titles but explain how your book provides something different and/or better. I feel like that's probably where a lot of people struggle or they shoot themselves a in a foot.

In the last part the author talks about the possibilities that a portfolio review can bring. They allow you meet industry leaders and directly show your work to possible curators and gallerist. In addition she wants you to be cognizant about what you should want to get out of the review. If you're in the stage in your career where you just need advice "direction on content" then going to a local portfolio review would be a better route.

Chanté Gipson Ch. 4 Reflection & Update

Chapter 4 Reflection Summary

In chapter four of Crusade for Your Art, the author discusses the importance of having a portfolio review and how it gives photographers the opportunity to show their work to others who are in the field. One of the opportunities given to photographers is the ability to attend a portfolio review event. At a portfolio review event, a photographer shows a portfolio of images to an industry leader to receive feedback for their work. Additionally, a photographer must determine what goals they have for their work and choose an event with reviewers who can best help them achieve their goals before attending an event. The author gives a list of guidelines a photographer must follow when preparing for a portfolio review. Some of the things to consider are the paper used for the images, the size of the images, the presentation of the images, and being able to speak about the work. Furthermore, the author mentions how a photographer can gain funding for their work. Kickstarter and Indiegogo are two online crowdfunding platforms that can help an artist to raise money for a project, a book, or an exhibition. Artists can also receive grants to help them raise money for their projects through local art agencies, the Foundation Center, and grants specifically for photography.

Project Update

This week I had a difficult time trying to come up with ideas on what to photograph, spent a lot of time photographing, and I continued my search online for inspiration. Below are some of the photos I chose and took during my shoot.

Kieran Rundle Ch 4 reflection

Coming up with a pitch is one of my hardest parts about portfolio reviews or general critiques. A quick couple sentences to sum up yourself and your work is a difficult thing to do. While I generally consider myself a decent public speaker, when it comes to keeping on a script I find myself stumbling (which is quite bizarre it's not the opposite).

Funding is the hardest part of doing work. That's why we need portfolio reviews, critiques, writing... all to try and find a solution. Crowdsourcing can be doable if the media works well. Without a decent enough initial audience base it's hard to keep the money coming in. That requires the word to get passed from person to person continuously.

Going back to the part about presentation for portfolio critiques, that requires funding too. Even the basics that get you to a place of making money cost money. It's the same for anytime someone tries to start a self reliant business but especially in the fine art world. I haven't applied for any grants outside of ODU or looked into them, but that's a specifically good idea. I've seen them posted on Call for Entry but often having a price tag on just applying is a deterrent.

Jedara Reyes Chapter 4 & Update

 Chapter 4

Chapter Four discusses portfolio reviews and funding your work. The book mentions portfolio reviewing events and I attended one before attending ODU. When I was picking a college I went to a portfolio reviewing event and I showed my work, received feedback and I even had schools offer me admission based off my work! I definitely felt the benefits of attending one of these events. The book talked about creating "leave behinds" which is not something I had at the event I had attended but I'm definitely at a point where I need them now. A "leave behind" is just something you leave with your reviewer that has your info on it like a business card. When it comes to funding work the book offered good tips like crowd funding and grants. I enjoyed the idea of offering limited edition prints.

Update

I forgot to upload pictures in last weeks post so I will go back and add them though you will see them in our review coming up. This week I spent a lot of time looking at my old images to really think about what I'm passionate about taking pictures of and what pictures I've taken actually represent that.

Chapter 5 Recap

Now we're entering the final stages of developing our project. We're wrapping things up with our work, if not finishing up. In the real world, our next step would be to prepare for a portfolio review. Because the project is for a class, our next step is to prepare for critique. How we got this far is based on information recounted in chapter 5.

Chapter 5, or the conclusion, recounts the process of developing and presenting work. Everything starts out with an idea. The next step is to plan out the work's development. You then coordinate the construction of craft, and finally envision where the work goes. This is the same process all artists use to develop work. This is also a process we are using.

In January, we crafted a plan to develop photographs for a class project. Once the plan was developed, we came up with a method of coordination. We established a timeline. We came up with how our work would be made. And now, we're envisioning where our work may go. For me, I see my work displayed in the senior show gallery. Following that, I plan on displaying the works in local galleries. Doing so would promote the area to incoming visitors. Chapter 5 recounts everything we've learned thus far in the semester. The chapter reinforces the driving force that is behind our photo projects.

Chapter 4 Recap

Critiques and portfolio reviews come with the presentation of projects. We previously learned planning, coordination, and vision are the components for developing work. Now we're going to focus on the stages. We're about to explore one of the final stages of making an art project, portfolio review. This is where chapter 4 come in.

The completion of a project  marks the beginning of the project's journey. That is, where the work is displayed and who sees the work. Portfolio reviews are an excellent way of presenting work. They allow peers to identify any given project's underlying weaknesses and strengths. These reviews also provide exposure to the work. Thus, expanding the project's coverage. Things worth considering for a portfolio review include the following: paper, image size, presentation of the work, lasting affects of your presentation, and the follow up.

As artists, we can't just think about the development of a work. We must also consider what will come after the work is done. Where will the work go? Who will see the work? What strengths and weaknesses were drawn from the work? Thinking back to our projects, that is something we have to consider. We want to have our work put out there. In order to do that, we eventually have to go through a portfolio review. How? From the information that was presented in chapter 4.

Chapter 3 Recap

Coordinating a project requires planning and achievement. Pre-set goals are the root of making achievements. We as artists face this very concept with our projects. The goal of my project is to project appreciation for architecture. How? With a series of fifteen photos featuring Hampton roads architecture. Each photo will incorporate variable composition and conditions. At the beginning of the semester, we were asked to come up with a schedule to execute the project. This ties into the idea of planning. We were asked to plan a timeline for developing and executing the project. This is something all artists have to do. A concept chapter 3 talks about.

There are three ideas outlined form the chapter: planning, coordination, and vision. The first one we will discuss is planning. Each plan is different from artist to artist. We choose our own path of execution for developing projects. Now let's move on to the second idea, coordination. The coordination of a project relates to resources. That is, the things we need to develop or create. There are several questions that can better determine resources for a project. What resources are needed for the project? Think for a moment. You're going to need money to purchase materials, if not resources. From which, you'll need to figure out how much. And then there's the vision. The final result of your project. The making or breaking of all goals that you made for the project. Where do you envision the work being displayed? Who are the viewers?

Reading chapter 3 reinforces the drive behind our projects. We all have a plan. We have a sense of how the project will be executed. We have a vision. Here's mine. I plan to develop a series of 15 photos. The series, Artitecture 2, calls on viewers to appreciate architecture. Over the course of two months, I will capture and digitally edit said photos. Once complete, the photos will be ready for printing and display in a gallery setting. Which then, will cause viewers to bask in the beauty architecture has to offer.

Artitecture 2: Update 5

Good evening! This is the fifth update on my project "Artitecture 2". I haven't captured new photos during this week. I decided change up the pace a bit and focus on editing the images. I've also replaced some photos within series as well. Depending on the weather, I will be shooting sometime this coming week. I'm aiming for two more photos for submission. Currently, I have thirteen lined up. Once complete, I will have fifteen. All of the latest photos are published on google drive if you would like to see them. Below you will find a photo from my shoot last week. This is not the photo I am using for the project, as I want it to be a surprise. To be safe, I made sure to choose a photo that was identical to the one I'm submitting. Hope you like it!

Kieran Rundle Late Chapter 3 Reflection

This chapter made me think about the future, something I’ve been doing a lot since senior year started. What are my goals? Why do I want that? I was listening to a book review podcast the other day and someone said “goals are too binding, I prefer to have intentions.” Do I even have goals in my artwork?

Reading about other places for artwork that museums like nonprofits or schools was brilliant. Someone submitted and is making work for hospital walls and dentist waiting rooms and I bet it makes them happy. When reading this I also wondered about a theme for my art. I’m all over the place in my photography. I was writing a statement for senior show and came up with the idea that I am a storyteller. In whatever way I perform my pictures, there is a narrative within them. It was nice of Schwartz to also outline questions to consider, like commission, before signing on with a gallery contract and providing an idea of what a reasonable price will be. When spending money to submit work to places looking up whether the success would be worth the literal cost of failure is difficult. Online pros and cons are specifically applicable today in the era of COVID19. More galleries are having online exhibitions. Personally I don’t find that nearly as satisfying but it is great for recognition. Publishing online yourself typically only works if you’ve managed to build a fanbase- something I’m not sure how to do since hashtags on instagram are often lost among the many.

Something I’ve always liked were publications. With both my creative writing and art I’ve always had this fantasy of walking through a Barnes and Noble (it used to be a Borders but the internet killed that dream) bookstore and amongst all the books, seeing my name. It would have that new book smell and the pages would be all white and crisp in the way that only untouched books in store shelves are.

In the chapter Schwartz outlined what you need for both a typical book and an artist book publication which I really appreciated as well.

Jedara Reyes Ch 3 & Update

 Chapter 3

Chapter 3 discussed goals for work which lead me to consider my own goals. I've entered and been accepted in multiple shows. I've received awards for a small amount of my work. Although, it made ME feel accomplished I'm not sure it's something I will need for my career choice. If I choose to be an artist full time especially in the fine art realm then I feel I will put more importance into gallery settings and award winning. I feel I would be more likely to choose freelance as I would like my own studio potentially one day. Then, I would focus on what makes an image sell and what makes people want to spend their money on me as an artist. Book making was discussed and my Emporia, Virgina project is one I would love to see finished in print.

Update

I have taken studio photos for portraiture and up next I will be trying to do product. I'm still brainstorming how I would like to create my composite image. I'm thinking of our old classmates Chris' work. Not the 3D aspect or his topic but the way his art always felt seamless and clean to me.

Kieran Rundle Sunday Update

I had COVID19 in October and the internet is right, the second time around is worse.

On Tuesday I went to get tested before seeing my mom and that morning my roommate had a fever. She tested positive and I negative for COVID19. The ODU COVID Cares team started calling us and was so sad when my 90 day period ended in January.

Despite suddenly starting self isolation, Wednesday night my symptoms started and by Thursday they were in full swing. On Friday my fever was so high I could hardly move. I tested positive at student health and passed out twice while in the office. They let me go home and not to the hospital since my originally positive roommate could monitor me physically.

On Wednesday when I knew I was going to have to quarantine for 14 days I was brainstorming how to do any photography work. My project, like most of ours, requires leaving the house to be in public places. I wanted to keep working on my photography and came up with the idea of taking pictures about the quarantine life. I quickly realized that this would really just be me laying in different places in my room- the floor, the bed, the bathroom.

Since Thursday photography has no longer been possible because of how sick I have been. Even sitting up or moving from laying in one place to another has been difficult. Here are the images from those first two days and then the thermometer from Thursday.

It's been hard to read or focus so the chapter reflection will come later this week.

Last time symptoms day 5 was a turning point so I'm hoping it will be this time as well.

Chanté Gipson Project Update & Chapter 3 Reflection

Project Update

These are some of the photos I took this week for my series that I chose. I struggled a bit trying to come up with ideas, so I went on the internet searching for inspiration from other photographers who use abstraction in their work. However, I am still having some trouble. If anyone has any ideas or thoughts, please let me know.

Chapter 3 Reflection Summary

Chapter three of Crusade for Your Art, the author discusses some of the ways a photographer should set goals for their work and figure out where they plan to be or go with it. When trying to get a work to sale or exhibited in a gallery, it is important to look at the work to determine if it would fit in a commercial or non-commercial venue. The author mentions some of the steps to take when submitting and making an exhibition proposal to a gallery. Additionally, the information that a photographer must give to a gallery is their bio, artist statement, intro page, exhibition details, thumbnails, a contact page and their CV, which is optional. A common goal for most contemporary photographers is to get the opportunity to make a book of the work and have it published. The first step to getting a publisher to publish one's book is to make a book proposal. Furthermore, some of the information that should be included in a book proposal is the title page, book description, audience, project overview, and sample content.
