Chanté Gipson Project Update

This week for my project I experimented with the different elements of photography using my camera. I played around with the suggestion of using a slow shutter speed and adjusted the aperture to create a blur effect. Furthermore, my tripod for my camera is broken, so I have bought another one online and it should be here by Wednesday.

For my project so far, I plan to make more images using the blur technique and shooting my camera through different objects. I am thinking of making the photographs more abstract this semester for my series and seeing how it goes moving forward. Also, I am interested in maybe trying to create images using the double or multiple exposure technique to convey the feeling of loneliness and depression.

If anyone has any thoughts, suggestions, or ideas for how I could improve my project I am open to it.

Kieran Sunday Update

This past week I spent my photographic time on the chemistry of mixing resin together. In the spirit of making the project artistic as well as documentary I have tried to do better set ups of the materials, though I imagine there will be better ones of these when color is involved.

My main goal with the project is to create a visual story of making art from different mediums through my photography. Over the last few years I've come to find this my favorite form of photography- telling stories through a series of pictures.

This coming week I will be doing pouring into molds and introduce mica powder and copper flakes to start showing the project come to fruition. Then, in the third week of resin, I will show the sanding, drilling, and stringing of the project as it completes.

If anyone has any ideas about how to set my subjects as more artistic I would love to read ideas.

Noah Duhe-Harris Project Outline

 Noah Duhe Harris

I plan to continue my series from last semester. I think the latter half of my images were really intriguing and better in general. This was a result of my idea growing and changing as I the images I took became more representative of something else, which was a more holistic street style. The thing I really want to improve on is making the images meet and match my ideas more specifically and be able to justify the decisions that go into the image and its relation to my idea. And with that in order to be better the image to idea relationship I need to strengthen that idea. I also want to eliminate some of the issues that I had last semester like having images that don't fit with the rest of the images whether it be based on technique or context. I also plan to specify my goals for the images and what I want to get out of each in relation to my overall theme. One of the more simple things I plan to do differently is just create more work. Last semester there were two occasions in which we had work to show to our classmates and I was ill prepared with nothing to show. I want to take advantage of every opportunity to be critiqued on my work.

Jedara Reyes The Project

I still remain immensely eager about the project I started last semester in Photo Seminar 1, Emporia, Virginia however I really want to include the people aspect it so desperately needs and I do not want to do that during COVID-19. Therefore, that leaves me to create a new project or work on my commercial portfolio. I do want to try my hand at another project based here in Norfolk based around Black women. I tend to/always make work on Black people and that is not something I intend to change. I want my work to serve my community first and foremost. However, I will be graduating soon and will need a strong portfolio. I will be graduating with a teaching license and plan to teach as soon as possible.

My big project would be focused on describing the African American woman experience covering adultification, fetishization, colorism, power dynamiccs, stereotypes, and Black culture. I feel art is the best way to bring light to issues when you can visualize them and we are becoming a society of people who are willing to listen and learn creating the best time for a project like this. Again though, COVID-19 presents itself in a way I do not want in my project. The portfolio would be a collection of my best work showing my strengths and I should refine what I think I'm good at and become workable at the things I'm not good at. I also think I could push out more content for a commercial portfolio since COVID-19 is not as pertinent for the aspects of the portfolio. Ultimately, I will probably choose to work on the portfolio.

Project Proposal

For my project, I would like to work toward producing a series. Photo series expose viewers to stories portrayed in picture. These stories typically come in the following forms: documentary, scientific, historic, and or artistic. For my series, I would like to focus on documentation. Specifically, I want viewers to see a documentation about change over time. Hence the name for my project, “Time”.

A great amount of change comes with the progression of time. For my project, we will see the documentation of time unfolding before us. The project calls for a series of ten photos depicting change over time. The depiction of time will be reflected from one single subject. While I do not have one subject nailed down yet, several options remain. The several desired options include the following: building construction, bridge construction, the growth of a Leopard Gecko, the pregnancy of a Guinea Pig, and or the various strikes of lightning. The selection of my subjects relies on the project’s focal point, time. In the meantime, I will work from all the listed options. Once we are closer to the project’s midpoint, I will make a final selection from the given desired options of subject. Part of my decision is also drawn from the subject’s conditions. Will we be able to have an electrical storm role through in time of the project’s completion? Will the Guinea Pig’s pregnancy line up with the timeline of the project? These questions will better determine the project’s subject. But regardless, my project will follow along a specific timeline. The goal is to have a subject selected by mid-February. The project is slated to be completed between March and early to mid-April

Chanté Gipson Project Outline

This semester I want to continue photographing for my series from last semester. Within the Confines of the Solitary Mind is a series I created for Photo Seminar 1 that captured scenes portraying loneliness, isolation, and depression. My purpose for creating this body of work was due to my own experiences with feeling alone and isolated from the world around me.

Furthermore, I am interested in expanding on the series more by creating and adding new photographs. My plan so far is to take some more photos at home and outside of the home finding things or places that represents the theme.

Kieran Rundle Outline

This semester I am starting a new project. To finish my career at ODU my final photo project will be a "tribute to art school." Over the past four years I have grown and learned so much about many different mediums.

My plan at this point is to create the following:

  • 3D sculpture

  • charcoal drawing

  • oil painting

I will capture the processes of creation through a mixture of still lives and staged portraits. I am in the process of reaching out to professors for access to studios in order to photograph in the places where I actually took classes in person. For studio space I cannot access, I will be setting up artist corners in my house. Some classrooms I will have very limited access to and will be using a mixture of pictures of the location with at home work.
