Chapter 2
This chapter talked about a lot of different and important topics. Edit your work, Artist Statement, Editions, marketing and branding your work. All very important to me editing your work can be the hardest thing. You as the artist have your favorite photos but they might not always work with your theme. Sometimes you just have to let the photo go. Another important part is your website , it has to reflect you as an artist. Sometimes that is the first thing a client or galleries sees.
Chapter 3
Goals as an artist. Do you want to show in a gallery, have a museum exhibition or sell work online. Me personal I do not think I will show or sell my work in a gallery. Its not for me, I might stick with selling my work online or go in a different direction.
Chapter 4
This chapter has a long of key information about image size and portfolio reviews. You want to always pay attention to the rules and guidelines for entering your work into a review or show. IF something is wrong the judges might not consider your work.

Mollie Schaidt update
hello all,
I finished the book for the class. I really enjoyed the book actually. I thought it was a easy read and was very informative. I took lots of notes from the text about just how to market yourself as a artist. I got tips for my website and other social media. As well as tips for proposals for my work and submitting to galleries/calls for entry.
I recently had another shoot last weekend of my family. I am currently still editing, and will have new prints for the final crit. I also want to start adding new media forms to my site such as audio. I am starting to think of my work in installation form.

Week update
Artist Statement
Week Update
I went to Washington D.C. to get a different precpective of Street Photography. I am working on editing all the photos, I will post some as soon as I finish. After that I plan on designing a Volumn 2 for the NYC, then a new book for D.C.
My photographs capture the emotion and fast pace of New York
City. The City has billions of lights and sounds constantly going off. There
are thousands of distractions every second and down every street. No one
notices a camera across the street taking photos. All of my photos are not
stages, this way I get people in the city in their true and honest form. Most
people can act stiff and different in front of the camera.

Mollie Schaidt update
Below is my updated artist statement:
I am a storyteller. I am giving a voice to my family — and others like them — that live their lives silenced by social oppression. I was raised in a blue-collar household, living off the grid: lower income, no credit, most everything second hand, no central air, well water, and only limited opportunities to better my condition.
I share my story through photography. I am making images of my lifelong home to share with others. Then, with text, I reveal memories from my past, as well as thoughts and impressions of my present. I use the photographs of my family and my home as a tool, to understand who I am as a person today. The intimate images and revealing text scrutinize social class, the human condition, and the meaning of happiness. The photographs also address issues that negatively impact most lower socio-economic households in our nation: income, education, employment opportunities, housing, addiction, mental health, and self-esteem. The text is handwritten, unscripted, and experiential — inspired by the current condition of my home and family.
Since childhood, I have been innately aware of my social standing and my family’s financial struggles. I knew I was different from my peers. I knew that certain material items and opportunities would simply be unobtainable. As a family, we did what we had to do to manage. I felt that my family, our trailer home, and my living conditions were somehow not “good enough.” Limited resources restricted our ability to improve our environment. But, despite both my parents working hard every day, we lived paycheck-to-paycheck just to keep a roof over our heads and food on the table.
After years of longing for my home to be somehow different, feeling that it was not good enough, I am now determined to be empowered by the place where I was raised. I am finding pride in an “honest day’s work,” a simple home, frugal living conditions, and a loving family. My standard is no longer “everybody else,” but rather my own conscience. I recognize and value the hard lessons my childhood provided — those were the opportunities that molded me into who I am today.

update- Casey Bunton
I've been reading the book so far its an easy read and i'm actually enjoying it, a first for a required text.
I also just received a test frame for my photos to hang them in senior show, i'll post an update once i get my image in the frame. Also if ya'll have any suggestions for 8x10 frames please suggest away.
For my website i'm thinking about going for a square space website and designing it around product photography.
I'm also looking at a paid summer internship at Haynes furniture to get some experience in the field of product photography

Update-Jenn Armstrong
Below are my working sketches for my logo for my website. I would love some feed back!!
Chapter 1
I am enjoying reading the book, it is extremely similar to the book I am reading for Senior Show. I thought the stages for fine art photography was very interesting. Starting with experimenting and then working out a theme from there. Rather then picking a theme then changing it 4-5 times during the process.

Mollie Schaidt- Week 2 update
This week I read about 40 pages into book for class. I am really enjoying it! It is a very easy read but makes a lot of good points that I have actually been thinking about. What I read gave me insight on Editions, and how to lay out a portfolio-- not diluting the impact of my series with weaker photographs to make a image count for class. As well as taking a step back from my work to be able to choose the stronger portfolio-quality images. After reading the section about the artist statement, I am deciding to edit my statement in a few areas where I think it could be stronger.
I am taking part of the research symposium this weekend for photo, and I am excited. I am working on framing and matting my photos tomorrow.
I am planning to take photos next weekend. It has been a struggle to get a free moment to travel back home to shoot. I am working on getting a new camera by the end of the month. Since my current one has been giving me some trouble-- plus I need to upgrade.

Week 1 Update - Jenn Armstrong
Hello all!
This semester I am looking at expanding my last series of street photography in NYC. I took a trip there in December and I plan to use some in my final project. I want to show the unique and unpredictability of the city. I am planning a trip up in the beginning of March for a couple nights. Until then I am working on the last photos I took and sorting through them and working on my website.
I have also recently put up my photos in the Exposure Gallery. Also I am getting my photos framed and ready for the symposium. :)
I will post some photos of my last trip in a couple weeks when I finish more!

Mollie Schaidt- Weekly Update 1
Hello all,
I ordered my book and it says it shipped so I am waiting for it to arrive. I am planning a trip to shoot photos next weekend. In the meantime I have been applying for shows, workshops, and grants basically whatever I can find.
I have been looking more into Grad programs and scheduled a grad tour for Pratt during spring break. I have been looking into SPE (Society for Photographic Educators) Conference that is being held March 1-4 in Philadelphia. I am still planning out the details if I can attend or not. I am currently in the process of redoing my "main book" from last semester so I can show it at the conference along with my portfolio.
This class I wanted to utilize my time by:
- working on expanding my current body of work.
- making a website
- making a second set of business cards, postage, and promotional items
- continue applying for shows, workshops, grants, etc.
- looking into Grad schools
- possibly make more books
