Juried Show / Series Update

So for the series I'm thinking about changing the studio portraits to environmental portraits to give a more personal feeling, and combing natural light with continuous lighting, maybe swaying away from facial features and focusing more on the person, or the same concept just putting them in a more personal environment. Im still going to play around with everything though.

This is a sho that a did a few weeks ago and am going to enter it into the show along with some other portraits. the first half goes together. I shot a girl but haven't edited her's yet, but it would be a girl, guy and another person or just a girl and a guy. Still bouncing around ideas and shoots. May need to tweak the color in the portrait (1st one) to match the body. I was just playing around with lighting and  body movements.

Weekly Post 4

These photos are from a series called Human Space by photographer Mária Švarbová.  These photos are minimalist and feature a singular figure, most of whom are looking away from the camera.  To me these photos read as feelings of loneliness, isolation, and solitude.  The color palette and empty spaces makes these images rather bleak.  I really enjoy how she is using light here and how the subjects seem to become part of the environment.

update!

I have created a website using wix, which is a free website builder. The templates are pretty cool, but if you don't pay for the domain you will be forced to have them advertise their logo on the bottom. Heres the link to the website, any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated.

Juried Show Options

I'm currently going through my photos and picking out options for the juried art show.... Peter advised us to not show our work more than once in the same place. Therefore, I am trying to avoid photos that are "necessary" for my series, yet at the same time are beautiful on their own. I wanted y'alls' feedback on my selections and let me know photographs I should definitely submit.. Let me know if I should add any that I did not attach. Do you think it is appropriate to submit a photograph to the juried art show if there is a possibility that it may be included in the senior show exhibit?

Christina Crespo-Sally Mann

Sally Man

Sally Mann is a southern photographer. She is known for her black and white images. She began making pictures of her children and family and then landscapes. Mann's photos are have a soft romantic esthetic to them. The pictures of her children and family seem very intimate. Her landscapes have the same romantic feel but seems to express more of the formal qualities of a landscape. I really like Mann's photos of her family. They are so personal which makes them so interesting. The lighting in her pictures always seems a little dim with just the perfect highlights to draw in the viewer.

Project Update "Effy"

Hey Guys,

Just a quick update. I've got another set of photos to go along with previous photos. Also, I wrote up a Project Statement that I feel defines what this series is, and why I'm doing it. Let me know what you guys think.
Thanks!

“Effy”

Confident but unsure. Naieve and young. Headstrong and willing. Black on porcelain. Boots. Leather. Dark Eyes. A cheap band T-shirt to sport around even though she’s only heard their music once before.
“Sure, whatever, I’ll do it,” she says taking the pill and dry swallowing it. This is Effy and this is the world she inhabits.
In this series, we are entranced by Effy through appearance and action as we navigate into her world. We see who she is, her nocturnal habits, and the colorful people she meets. We are brought to various city and urban dwellings and we travel with the vagabond that is Effy. However, we are also exposed to the various people she interacts with and their smoking, drinking and drug influences on her.
I created this series to continue my passion for story telling through photographs. I had been working on this story for a while now in the form of a novel. However, it didn’t occur to me until I started making this series that another reason I made it was to have a “tableau” series that brought up addiction awareness. This series poses as a story that alerts viewers on current issues shaping out world such as cigarette smoking that causes cancer, legalization and management of Marijuana, crucial usage and over dosages of Heroin, and other malevolent drug usages especially among our youth.

Weekly Post 3

These images are by Richard Tuschman and are a photographic response to the Edward Hopper's paintings.  Tuschman creates these scenes by digitally combining dollhouse dioramas and live models.  He built, painted and photographed the sets in his studio and used dollhouse furniture, some of which he made himself.  He creates quite scenes with a somber mood and uses dramatic lighting to heighten emotions.  His photographs evoke solitude, alienation, and longing.

Nini's update!

I've shot a few more people for mutt, still trying to meet up and get more shots.

In the mean time, I started working on something I've been thinking about for a while now. Shot the first person today, have a few more in line this week. Still not sure what to call the series.

Christian Moll weekly blog post

David Ogle

David Ogle graduated from Lancaster University with a 1st class BA in Art History and Practice in 2009 and an MA with a Distinction in Contemporary Arts Research  in 2012.He is currently undertaking an AHRC funded doctoral research project at The University of Liverpool in collaboration with FACT (Foundation for Art and Creative Technology) maintaining his studio practice alongside academic work.

Ogle's photography seeks a mode of fragility, revealing strong geometric forms within each frame. Like the bright distinctive lines along the surfaces, they exist in space without mass or structure. His work has come to rest on the edge between a sculptural form and an environmental occurrence. His pristine landscapes are a context that is inseparable, like the shifting natural light that transcends through the frame provides a significance and meaning. Like a fleeting through narrow window of time.

I really enjoy David Ogle's work, its right up my alley of interests. With the distinctive bright lights and abstract use of soft and harsh colors. With all of it placed in serine landscapes that compliment each other so nicely. I am beyond impressed with his photographs and  how he creates a  mysterious hazy lighting effects to how he reflects the lasers within a scene. With each photo being different from the rest by the use of vibrant artificial and natural lighting create such amazing photographs.  I deferentially plan to use some of these effect when making my photos for my series.

I will be posting some of my photos that I have created so far later this week. I'm still in the editing stage with them right now and still have more photos I want to make before posting.

Beginning Editing Stage

So I originally planned on posting new photos from a shoot in Richmond this past weekend; however, I have to reschedule that to this upcoming weekend. Instead, I started working on editing my photographs. I have uploaded 4 examples. I tried to show two black and white and two color. What do y'all think? I know we had some discussion about mixing black and white with color photos... The top two feel separate to me from the bottom two; however, I intend that they will make sense when placed in conjunction with my other photographs. To me, putting the snow pictures makes more sense because it allows the viewer to focus on the tracks. In addition, it makes the scene feel like a memory... not sure if anyone else sees that. Let me know what I should include in my next shoot!

Photo Shoot

Here are a few pics from a shoot I did last night. I used a small keychain LED flashlight for the lighting. Some of the pictures are left with the cool tone of the LED light and others I changed to a warmer tone. I think I'm leaning more towards the warmer tones because it looks nice on the skin. I experimented with showing some of the model's hair. At first I didn't think that I would like the hair showing but, I think that the contrast in textures is really interesting. Any one have any opinions/suggestions?
