Rachel Trautmann: Weekly Update

I started more serious editing of my certain website and a new website that will exclusively show my fine arts work. I'm working on updating the artist information for both websites right now. After I finish up the layout of the fine arts website, I will start uploading my work to it. I will make it active after a logo and everything else has been uploaded to it. I'm hoping to have it finished up by the beginning of April.

I made a formal book for my photographs from inauguration day and the woman's march. It came in a  couple of days ago! I don't plan on doing anything official with it, I just wanted it for myself...I make a lot of photo books.

The photos below are just a few out of my selects folder right now.

This is a photo I took in South Carolina last October. I will be in Florida for spring break and plan on staying in a beach condo for a couple of nights to hopefully get more versions of this or something like it. I want there to be at least one photo will actual people in it for my show but I don't want them to be a focal point...if that makes sense.

Rachel Trautmann: Women's March Book

I made a flag book themed off of my Women's March photos.
I really like how it turned out but I think I'm going to make a larger one to include more photographs.  I also plan on making a few other smaller changes.

Rachel Trautmann: Weekly Update

I plan on showing two things for Senior Show. One will be my climate change related series; the photos below are some shots I took this week relating to that series. The other thing I will be showing is more of a photography installation. The installation changed as of a few days ago so the idea is still fresh. I'll update more on that one later.

These images are of a clear gel material inside of a plastic bag. It is normally used as a ice cooler for keeping things cold. When I started thinking about this series I knew I wanted to capture bubbles trapped in "water" because it resembles the CO2 bubbles seen in ice core samples. I also enjoy the irony of this gel glob looking like ice core samples when it itself was made to keep things cold...and that it is enclosed within plastic that helps with the pollution of our air and seas.

Rachel Trautmann: Chapter Two

I’m typing as I read so it’ll be in the same order as the chapter.

I can definitely relate to the first area of the chapter where it described how photographers sort of fall in love with the environment they took the picture in along with the image they captured. I have never thought about it in that sense before.

I found the artist statement questions to be helpful, as well.
- What are you trying to say with your work?
- Why are you making this work?
- Why should the viewer care?
Breaking it down into three separate parts that are also simple makes the job of writing a statement a little easier. Ideas seem to come for the artist statement a little easier. — I also always need the reminder to avoid being vague or general in my artist statements.

I need to make another website. The website section made that very clear.
I have a lot of the features and things done correctly but I need to separate my commercial photography and fine art photography.

Also, Hootsuite!!! What!? I can schedule things to post on social media…and all of them at the same time. That’s amazing. I don’t keep up with Twitter because keeping up with Facebook was enough, as is. I also make a habit out of updating my website’s blog multiple times in a day so the scheduling of the posts will be helpful with that, as well!

Drive-By Series

I've tried taking pictures everyday, (yes, majority of the time driving) but during Spring Break, hopefully I can go to NYC to take pictures of serious gridlocks.

I've tried being out of my car and standing on the streets, but I can't find a place where car can stay still. When they see me, they move a feet or two ahead, but I know in NYC it'll be bumper to bumper.
Enough of the excuses, I just have to keep shooting continuously.

Victoria Garnett: New Photos and scans

Website link: http://victoriagarnettphotography.weebly.com/

My aunt was out of town again for this weekend but I still took some photos of the farm and some old things that are hanging around on the property. Photos to use as metaphors and such. WE replaced our old door to my house a few years back and the old door is now thrown in a brush pile to be burned at some point.  My grandfather had written a note to one of my uncles back in  the 60's about "not helping picking cherries on the farm" and I photographed a photo in the spring of last year of the cherry blossoms and included it with the new photos and scans.

Website - Unedited

I want to start working on my website a little bit. I took some screenshots of some of the pages on my website. Most of my photo pages are galleries so I saved all of you the extra length on the screenshots!

I love the cleanliness of my website. I do agree that there is still too much stuff on my site. I don't want to make different websites for each area of my work BUT I do want to make the intro page more directing towards whatever area of my work they maybe interested in.

Most of my galleries need to be updated so I will work on that along with changing up the overall designs of the gallery layouts. I plan on tweaking areas of all the pages by the end of the semester though. Well, hopefully before the end of the semester!

Response to Carra's Weekly Update - Photo Comment

This is just an example of cropping down some of the full body shots. I think even angles like this could be interesting with the images you already have. It shows more tension in the body than others but I think it works. Just an idea.

Victoria Garnett: Update and Website Link

My aunt that I normally do my family research with was out of town this weekend so I wasn't able to get any photographs of her, so I decided to go through my parents things and photograph things they have saved over the years such like love letters and items. I got my mom to hold and read a letter my dad wrote to her while they were dating. I found a hoodie I wore as a baby and photographed it and my aunt let me scan a page from her journal she kept while Granddad was sick with cancer in the 80's. I also spent the weekend photographing landscapes of the farm. Some photos are edited some aren't and some photos are photographs I had already taken in the spring or summer of last year. I also Took photos of my great aunt that I visited with my mother and her sisters over the weekend. I'm wondering how I can tie both sides of my family in the project.
