Rachel Trautmann: Peninsula Art Show

These are the two works I'm submitting to the Peninsula Art Show this weekend.

Rachel Trautmann: Weekly Update

My larger Women's March book is done! The two matching books for Inauguration Day and March on Science will be done with the same structure and size.

We did CV, Bio and Artist Statement drafts this week. I haven't edited through my artist statement and bio yet but this is my revised CV.

Rachel Trautmann: Weekly Update

I have finally finalized my Senior Show gallery idea! I will be finishing a larger version of my Women's March book today. Instead of 9 photos being displayed in the center of the book, there will be 25 photos. I will also be making two books that will be paired with it. The other two books will be based on my photos from Inauguration Day and the ones I will be taking at the March on Science next month.

I will be submitting my large Women's March book to the Peninsula Art Show next week. I have decided what my second piece will be yet. I will be starting my Inauguration book this week but I don't think it will be done in time...even if I really work on it.

Later on today I will be rewriting my artist statement along with a bio and CV. If I remember, I will upload those to this blog later on today when I finish them. I will also upload a photo of the latest version of my Women's March book (probably tomorrow).

Rachel Trautmann: Chapter 3 & 4

Chapter 3:

I think explaining the reasons why someone maybe rejected, beyond simply that they didn't like the work, was a good reminder.
I'm currently experiencing the expense of a show. The frames I've been looking at are over $100 each! Ughhh!
I wish there was more information on handmade artist books though...

Chapter 4:

"There are several grants for the medium of photography, as well as competitions with cash awards. These grants and competitions are often for a particular genre of photography, and keeping current on the offerings and their deadlines is always a good practice. The PhotoPhilanthropy website (www.photophilanthropy.org) maintains a list, as well as several popular photography blogs and online magazines. Spenational.org and collegeart.org are also great portals for finding opportunities and funding."

^^^ Seriously useful.

Victoria garnett

Over break I visited the house that my G-G-G Grandfather St. Clair Graves built after he broke away from his white relatives who banished him from the Graves family. He fathered his bi-racial children here with the mother of his children Anne Brown. My G-Great Grandfather William Henry Fields and his daughter my Great Grandmother Josephine Fields Garnett grew up here. Their last name is technically "Graves", however, because William Henry Fields was born before the Civil war and due to the Graves family reputation in the small town, William was given a random last name that wouldn't be consider controversial during that time.
(Josephine)
