One artist’s website that I enjoyed was Shane Rocheleau’s. Although his website is kind of plain and just slightly on the bland side, I like how simple it looks. I also like the fact that his biography is nice and short compared to some of the other artist’s websites I looked at. I think if he included some more interesting features or colors, the website would be much better.

I enjoyed Mark Peterson’s website a lot and enjoyed the darker background of the website. It is different from a lot of other artist’s websites who only use the typical white background. His layout is nice but the only thing missing is his biography. Unless I missed it, I didn’t see one and I think every artist website should include somewhat of a biography so viewers of the website can know more about the artist.
I like the layout for McNair Evans’ website because it looks clean and professional. I like how you have to move your curser on the image to see the title of it. If all the titles were there, I feel like it would be a little smushed. Another thing I also liked was the sizing of the text on the different pages.

Three questions I have about websites:
1. I noticed that a lot of artist's websites have plain, white backgrounds. Is there a reason why people prefer it (if it's distracting) or if it's alright to have a different colored background?
2. When writing a biography, should it be short and to the point or should it be just lengthy enough that the viewer gets a good understanding of who the artist is? I noticed that there was a mix of short and long biographies.
3. Is it better to stay professional or throw in a little bit of personality on the website? If that makes sense.
Hey Roger,
ReplyDeleteI noticed and liked how many of the photographers had simple backgrounds. I am not too sure why white other than perhaps it mimics gallery walls. I think its okay to have different colors as long as its neutral or at least not something overly vibrant like neon green.
The bio question, I share the same curiosity. I have seen both and wonder what is better. I know personally I wouldn’t always read it all, but hopefully we will get more insight on this.
What do you mean by a little bit of personality? Curious to what you have in mind. Martin Parr had some neat and creative aspects on his that made it interesting…
