Here are some images of my Grandfather Aaron Garnett's family. The first image was taken on his childhood home and farm with his mother  Josephine,  father james clyde, his grandfather (center), siblings, niece, and nephew. The second image was taken of him on his wedding day with my grandmother Ruth. The last images are photos of my dad  James and his siblings doing work on our farm last weekend. I want to incorporate these images to show how my grandfathers family tradition of  keeping  up with farm life had lasted over the years. But the recent photos are not the same farm my grandfather grew up on, but the farm he bought to raise his own family on which I grew up on and still live til this day. As you can see we have a tradition of naming each other after people in the family as well.

  1. My favorite image here is the second from the last the wide shot. I think it is important to show the land. The closer shots such as the tractor do not really work for me because they are not as exciting and images and feel too unconsidered or snapshot like. Don't think of it necessarily as showing what people do as much as showing a feeling of the place. I LOVE the wide shot with the fire. The fire becomes a metaphor for many things and the I see the land.

  3. However think about your composition the pole is coming out of his head. The frame is coming out of your aunts head also. Why not move your aunt to the a more personal space like kitchen or bedroom or front porch. Take the great elements you have (relatives, house land) and make great images. It is not about documenting factually what happens on a farm. It is about something more nebulous.
