Chanté Gipson_Chapter 1 Reflection

Chapter one of Crusade for Your Art Best Practices For Fine Art Photographers, focuses on how important it is for a photographer to make work that becomes a strong body of work with a cohesive concept, style, and feeling. Schwartz discussed the three stages of a photographers process of making work. The first stage is experimentation, technical competence, and development of style. Second stage is to work within projects and create a body of work that tells a story about something. Last stage applies the two previous stages to work truly connected to an individual photographer. When understanding the type of work one is creating, it is necessary to take a step back from the work to think about it and how it will be perceived by others once it is displayed to the public. I thought it was interesting when Schwartz mentioned the importance of letting the concept of a work evolve and continue to experiment with your camera to find your own voice and style that will connect with other people.
