*Reaching out to Asian Americans and taking pictures of the opposite of Asian stereotypes.
-group different Asian American
-a football Asian American
-an Asian American person with their pet dog or cat
- an Asian American person who has a nice car
although I will run out of ideas, that's why I'm struggling so much.
*I also thought of leaving it self related based
-a self-portrait of me having washed-out white paint running down my face to show "whitewashed"
-a portrait of me holding a photo of my American family
-portrait of me with beauty stereotypes written on my face
- a picture of me looking into a mirror, but the person in the mirror is something that I'm not, that people expect me to be.
*or I was thinking of doing both self and other Asian American stereotyped struggles.
I think both of the ideas are excellent. I might start with yourself? The ideas you outlined are important and could be quite humorous. Humor can be a good way into am important subject. I think once you get going you will have more idea. Have you watched Ali Wong's specials or any other Asian comedians. It might give you ideas also.
ReplyDeleteHey Emily,
ReplyDeleteYou have some great starting ideas. What might help to decipher which direction to go in is to start photographing and see what comes from it. I think doing both ideas could come together visually to help tell your story.
