Although chapter two seemed a bit long, it was packed full of helpful tips to writing artist statements, figuring out the size, edition and price of the work an artist wants to make, along with coming up with a brand and website. I found the section about writing artist statements very useful because when it comes to writing statements, I always get stuck on what I want to say but I appreciate how the author included examples of both successful and not so successful artist statements. I also want to quote this sentence from page fifteen. “Do not dilute the impact of your project or series by including weaker photographs to meet a self-imposed image count.” I should take this advice because whenever I make a series, I always set a goal for how many I want instead of only including the best photos and taking out the weaker photos.
I found the section about sizing, edition, and pricing to be interesting because I’m trying to figure out what sizes I want my prints to be for the end of the semester and it’s good to know about pricing in case I want to sell any photographs further on in my career.
There was some interesting information in this section. Creating editions, pricing and marketing are things I keep putting off because I didn't think I was ready for it, but like you with coming towards the end of our classes, it is time to start considering taking action on some of these.
